Summer Logic and Latin camps

Posted on Updated on

It’s not such a bummer to learn in the summer!

Gideon Study Center will be offering summer camps for incoming students entering the Logic 2 class (for Dialectic students) and the Latin classes (grades 4-7), each taught by the tutor who will lead those classes in the coming year.

Who can resist a camp with dress up days, games, activities, songs and fun?
 Latin in a Week

Gideon Study Center invites students entering grades 4-8 to participate in our Latin in a Week Camp, August 27-31, 2012, 9-1, at Gideon Study Center in Bridgeville.

This camp is open to all students entering 4-8 grades, whether homeschooled or not, though it is designed to offer new Gideon students a review of the Latin their soon-to-be classmates have been taught over the past few years. Returning students who wish to review past material and students who wish to get a taste of a year’s worth of Latin in the course of a week will also benefit from this camp.

What a great opportunity to expose your students to one of the most recognized, time-tested, and thorough approaches to instruction in critical thinking and language development.  (For more information on the relationship between Latin and learning, see Why Latin?.)

Led Mrs. Ann Holmes, Latin tutor at both Gideon Study Center and Blackburn Study Center, the camp will cover the Latin for Children Book A and Latin Alive Book A material and present vocabulary, sentence pattens, conjugations and declensions, grammar concepts and Roman trivia.  Besides learning games, activities, songs and fun, students may come dressed in theme for each day of camp, including Sports Day, Career Day,Favorite Character Day, Crazy Hat/Hair/Socks Day, and Favorite Super Hero Day Day! Daily prizes will be awarded.

The cost of the camp will be $75.  Materials will be provided. Students are asked to bring a bag lunch (no refrigeration or reheating available). A morning snack will be provided.
